1 - California Villa (Villa Infill)

Villa Infill

Los Angeles, Los Feliz

Villa Infill is a full service design and development project for a home-owner with a lot that many other deemed too small to build upon. The opportunity of building on a small lot requires a special sensitivity to detail - both in design and execution.

We make the most of this project with two basic principals: 1) keeping things clean & simple, and 2) making as much exterior space as interior.  The entire design maintains a minimal palette with a focus on functionality and simplicity.

The building is designed with only 10 major structural prefabricated panels. Their spatial arrangement, however, creates a dynamic use of space and invites the feeling of a bigger house despite the small lot condition. Driven by the partner home-owner's desire for Scandinavian aesthetics, the core layout makes the best of both worlds to create a unique and striking living space. The exterior uses natural materials such as wood and stone or palette is often muted and understated.

Large windows provide an abundance of natural light, and the use of simple geometric shapes creates a sense of balance and harmony. Inside, the design of a modern Scandinavian villa is all about creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The main living area is an open-plan space that seamlessly blends the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The use of natural materials such as wood, leather, and wool creates a sense of warmth and comfort, while the clean lines and minimalist design create a feeling of spaciousness and simplicity.
