The experience of going to the dentist can be challenging, and a patient’s negative feelings around a visit can become a detriment to the underlying business. When neighbor was retained by a local dentist to redesign their office with the most cost-effective design solution possible, it became an exercise of reconnecting medical use with the fundamentals of what makes people feel well.

Architectural light, natural textures, and plantlife are the obvious solution, but integrating these features with the technical requirements of a modern dental community is no simple task. In this design for a dental group in Florida, the existing building is reworked to include more natural light via a central atrium filled with local plantlife, along with immediate views to plantways in patient areas. The building facade is wrapped with a new glass curtain wall but complimented by a shading screen with natural wood.
