Upstate New York

One of the most compelling challenges of building in a rural environment is managing the nuance between creating a building and appreciating its untouched natural surroundings. In addition to letting this inspire a selective design, this also becomes a question of actual construction and delivery.

This home in upstate New York is designed with both an architecture and development plan that minimizes the footprint of the building on the site, while also preserving open vistas and framed views of the landscape. Delivered in a prefabricated box components, the building is designed to literally unfold in the most minimally invasive construction process possible. This provides a cost-efficient, land-efficient, and process-efficient way of authoring a process and result that is fundamentally respectful of the existing land.
